Jokobo Lands Two New Licensees: Hot Properties And Brown Trout

BRANDORA Editorial Staff - November 2010

CopCorp Licensing President Carole Postal today announced the signing of two new licensees for Jim Benton’s JOKOBO™ art brand.

  • Hot Properties (www.hotmerch.com) has been granted the rights to utilize Benton’s JOKOBO artwork on a wide range of licensed products including Magnets, Buttons, Stickers, Key Chains, Patches, and Key Covers.
  • Brown Trout Publishers (www.browntrout.com) has been granted the rights to produce and sell Note Cards, Bookmarks, and 2012 Calendars featuring Benton’s JOKOBO artwork.

JOKOBO™ is a collection of artist Jim Benton's funny and provocative drawn cartoons and painted sketches. Although JOKOBO cartoons are executed in a wide variety of pop-primitive styles, the common theme running through all is the use of simple images to express complex themes and emotions such as love, deception, good vs. evil, sex & violence, etc. The simplicity of JOKOBO cartoons allows for planned ambiguity that supports subversive interpretations and multiple layers of meaning. Different people will see different things and, for those who look deep enough, there is often humor on several different levels.

Jim Benton, whom People Magazine called “the most visible cartoonist in America,” has had great success in the creation of new original properties. Building licensable brands from the ground up has become a specialty of his. Benton properties do great business: in addition to Benton’s popular and award-winning It’s Happy Bunny humorous character brand, he is the creator of several other successfully licensed brands including The Misters, Just Jimmy and Meany Doodles among others.

CopCorp Licensing, global licensing agent for Jim Benton’s JOKOBO, specializes in the development of brand and entertainment based licensing opportunities for presentation and packaging to the manufacturer and retailer communities. Led by Carole Postal, Founder and President, CopCorp Licensing develops, sells, negotiates, markets and implements complete licensing strategies and programs for major entertainment corporations, artists, art studios, and apparel brand names, among many others.
