HIT Entertainment - November 2010

Exceptionally high standards of performances from outstanding finalists after nationwide search for a young star

Tianna Marie Carter, 10, from May Bank, Newcastle, was today announced as the winner of the Angelina Ballerina Dance Award, in association with the National Dance Awards, following the final auditions at English National Ballet’s studios yesterday. Tianna, who attends the Marilyn Jones Dance School, faced tough competition but her passion and talent for dance shone through in her audition.

There was much tension and excitement at English National Ballet’s studios yesterday as fifteen highly talented and eager youngsters, selected after a nationwide search, performed in front of some of the most prestigious names in dance. The judging panel included Dancer and Director Wayne Sleep, Senior Principal Dancer at English National Ballet Elena Glurdjidze, and the Author and Creator of Angelina Ballerina, Katharine Holabird.

Tianna has now won the chance to spend a day training with the world renowned English National Ballet dancers. Last year’s winner of the award, Lucy Wood, who also completed this ENB training, is currently rehearsing with English National Ballet for the new production of The Nutcracker.

Wayne Sleep, Chair of the Angelina Ballerina Dance Award judging panel said: “All of the judges were very impressed with the high standard of performances we saw today. All of the finalists showed great technique and there were plenty of professional dancers in the making. Tianna, however, was exceptional and dazzling to watch. She owned the stage and wowed the judges with her classical solo performance demonstrating not only fantastic technique but that extra sparkle that is so rare.”

The Angelina Ballerina Dance Award was established by HIT Entertainment - producer and rights owner of leading children’s brands including Angelina Ballerina, in partnership with the National Dance Awards, to encourage budding performers across the UK aged 10 and under.

Jon Owen, Senior Vice President HIT Global Brands, said “By creating this award, HIT Entertainment hopes to encourage Angelina Ballerina’s core values of determination, strength of spirit and love of dance. We hope that the award gives confidence to young performers and provides them with a platform for future success.”
