Successful for the sixth time in a row: Der “Tag der Lizenzen”

LIMA Deutschland - March 2009

Filled to the brim with information on licensing business and networking opportunities in a wonderful atmosphere

About 600 visitors came at LIMA GERMANY’s invitation 2009 and joined for the “2009 Tag der Lizenzen” in Cologne. Major licensing professionals introduced their licenses and properties to merchandising experts. In between presentations participants led inspiring informal discussions on latest trends and business opportunities. Just before the calendric beginning of spring the industry appeared budding and blossoming. All signs point to growth, the atmosphere is optimistic. Spring is about to come!

„I am thrilled to watch latest developments of licensing business and witness how market players creatively boost their innovative ideas“, said Thomas Gattermann, idee + spiel, thus getting to the point of the positive atmosphere at the “Tag der Lizenzen” in Cologne. It was not the time to discuss latest challenges on the market but the time to reveal new opportunities and potential. The industry is determined to manoeuvre their business out of the vast vale of tears with strong brands, ingenious concepts and positive incentives for consumers – namely, fun and entertainment on TV and the silver screen. Or lovely high quality products that do not belong to the necessities of life, but make life simply beautiful. That’s what licensing lives on. That’s what drives licensing business. That’s what the top-class audience saw and experienced when 26 licensors and agencies introduced their strongest properties, latest innovations and successful promotion and marketing campaigns at the Rheinterrassen in Cologne. Their presentations were filled to the brim with information on national and international franchises from brands, characters, TV, movie, celebrities and sports. On this one-day trip of the glamorous world of licensing major players like Celebrities, Super RTL, CTM, m4e, g.l.a.m., MTV, TLC, Walt Disney, Warner Bros., ZDF Enterprises and DFL Sports Enterprises amongst others revealed their sports and corporate brands, their shooting stars in licensing from preschool to the adult market. “It is always exciting to gain insight into the variety of classic and innovative properties and see latest developments of the industry“, said Claude Schmit, Super RTL, in the evening. The wealth of information came as a positive surprise to Olivier d’Agay, responsible for the international marketing of “Le Petit Prince” (The Little Prince). And even Charles Riotto, president of the LIMA, praised the high quality of the event.

“We especially take pride in the successful integration of trade, industry and right’s owners into our Jour Fixe in spring”, said Heike Winner, managing director, LIMA Germany. “Many top-class participants took their chance to get an overview of the industry’s potentials, meet licensors and agencies and cultivate exciting relationships. The event owes its continuous success and positive atmosphere mostly to the dedication of our sponsors: I’d like to take the opportunity to thank BIP /Holland, Copyright Promotions, Ehapa, Fipo Group, Foreign Media, MTV, Super RTL, TV Mania, United Labels, ZDF Enterprises and all media partners once more for their generous support“, said Heike Winner.

Following a fine tradition, LIMA members looked back on a long day’s inspiration at the LIMA Spring Festival. The wonderful Wolkenburg location in Cologne once again provided the perfect romantic-historical background for culinary and Lucullan delights, inspiring discussions and an atmospheric end of a busy day.
