Ciaté London x SmileyWorld Launch ultimate Smiley Beauty Icons To Celebrate World Emoji Day

The Smiley Company - July 2020

To celebrate World Emoji Day and the launch of an exciting new beauty collaboration between Ciaté London and SmileyWorld, eye-catching images were projected onto the House of Commons last night, to spread an uplifting message of positivity and self-expression for these times. The lipstick-wearing Smiley was beamed onto the famous structure last night, on the eve of World Emoji Day, by Ciate London to remind people of the importance of being emotionally aware of others and staying upbeat in these times.

In a world where we communicate our emotions and actions through the Smileys on our phone, beauty innovator, Ciaté London, and iconic lifestyle brand, SmileyWorld, will introduce a set of exclusive Smiley Beauty Icons to further animate positive conversations around beauty.

Charlotte Knight Founder and CEO of Ciate London said: “It’s World Emoji Day and what better way to celebrate the influence and revolutionary power that Smileys have had on our lives then dropping a new range of icons, created in partnership with the originators of the concept. These new icons feature lashes and lipstick as part of our mood-boosting new beauty line with SmileyWorld.”

The beloved Smileys get a major “glow-up,” courtesy of Ciaté London, as it's reimaged in thirteen playful beauty iterations, including Sunday Self-Care, Smiley and Chill, Woke Up Like This, No-Makeup Makeup, Third Date, and Contour and Highlight, to name just a few.

Whether you have your hair in a wrapped towel post-shower, you are taking a WFH call while working on your under-eyes, or finally get the chance to put on those lash extensions and lipstick for a little pick-me-up, the collection is sure to beautify the conversations with friends via Smiley, and encourage users to express their unique beauty stories - text conversations will never be the same.

Despite very little being known about the early origins of emojis, the starting point for the use of digital Smileys started in 1997 when Nicolas Loufrani, son of the creator of the first Smiley, saw the opportunity to digitalise his Original Smiley into a variety of emotions that made sense of the pre-existing ASCII emoticons created by Scott Fahlman in 1982. This became the starting point for how we use Smileys in technology and influenced the emoji language we now use every day—giving us a way to tell each other how we are feeling in a shorthand that is not easily expressed through traditional dialects. Smiley’s emoticons have gone on to have an essential place in our society today, helping people to understand an emotion quickly and to express what may seem complicated to them more easily. Smiley is on a mission to put emotional intelligence at the forefront of education through arts and cultural partnerships that promote the power of emotional intelligence to create a more empathetic, tolerant and positive world.
