Munich-based licensing agency Euro Lizenzen is expanding its highly successful licensing programme based on Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s masterpiece “Le Petit Prince / The Little Prince” in other European markets through its co-operation with the Saint-Exupéry d’Agay Estate and Brandev. This iconic book, which brought to world a magical quest for love, friendship and respect, capturing the hearts of all ages; has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since 1943. The Little Prince is translated in over 290 languages and dialects, making it the second most translated book after the Bible. The book which bridges generations, enjoys worldwide popularity: 90% of the children between 6 to15 years and 92% of adults read and loved the book. The reason why The Little Prince became one of the world’s most enduring literary characters, explains Olivier d’Agay, the grandnephew of Saint Exupéry: “According to me there are 4 reasons why Le Petit Prince is still so popular worldwide. First of all it is a book of consolation, transmission, revelation, initiation. The power of the text associated to the amazing illustrations is very strong. Over the years it became a fundamental and essential lyric of human literature. For millions of people it is the incarnation of “Hope”. And now, the Little Prince is an icon and an ambassador of global issues like protection of the planet, peace, education and tolerance.” And adds that “New brand experiences have been developed, which includes an entertainment park in Alsace -making it easily accessible for the Swiss, Germans, and French- as well as 4D animated trails in planetariums, exhibitions in France, China, Japan, Korea, Brazil and the merchandising programme with over 150 licensees worldwide.”

The current The Little Prince licensing programme which is developed by Euro Lizenzen includes leading publishers and licensees from Germany and Italy like arsEdition, Schwager & Steinlein, WMF, Könitz, KnorrToys, Tex Idea, Universal Music, teNeues, KV&H Verlag, Bompiani, GUT, L’Accessorio, Moleskin, to name a few. In addition to these traditionally strong markets for Le Petit Prince, new licensees from Poland, Czech Republic and Turkey are recently joined to the family. “Especially Turkey and Poland are becoming very promising markets for the brand. We have recently signed several licenses in these territories. For instance our Turkish licensee Epsilon, which manufactures and distributes over 30 different stationary and gift related products, has opened Le Petit Prince Shops in Istanbul and Eskisehir this year. Furthermore 50 corner openings at the book retail chain D&R are also planned for this year.” says Günter Vetter, Managing Director of Euro Lizenzen and continues “The other leading Turkish licensee is the AG Event which has organized world’s most extensive Le Petit Prince book exhibition as well as a children activity event at the Capitol shopping mall in Istanbul last year. This is followed by exhibitions and children’s events in Ankara and Izmir earlier this year. The event in Istanbul, which has attracted over 1 million visitors, has won 10 international awards in several categories from Hermes Creative Awards and Stevie-Awards organizations.” The Little Prince is also a hero in social network, it has over 12 million fans on Facebook official page, 500.000 people visit the official website annually and it is also a best seller on Internet as ebook or enhanced digital book for a long time already. Euro Lizenzen is exhibiting at the Brand Licensing Europe from its stand G55.
