ZDF Enterprises has sold the documentary “China’s Schindlers” to Histoire in France, RTVE in Spain, The History Channel Deutschland, ORF III in Austria as well as Spectrum (AMC Networks Central Europe) for Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The one-hour program provides a new facet to World War II and the topic has generated great interest among broadcasters. It was produced by NHNZ for CICC in China. Based in New Zealand, NHNZ is a global production house with a reputation for innovation in storytelling, technology, and business integrity. NHNZ produces more than 60 hours of television each year. The company shares a long partnership with CICC (China Intercontinental Communication Center). Based in Beijing, the international media company is the longest-established co-production documentary company in all of China. Now, both companies have taken a whole new look at the recent history of China, little-known outside the country.

In the past, studies of World War II have focused mainly on how the war was experienced in Europe. The new documentary now provides an exciting change of perspective with a focus on two brave men in China, both known as “China’s Schindlers”: the Chinese diplomat Dr. Feng Shan Ho, who enabled Viennese Jews persecuted by the Nazis to escape to Shanghai, and the German businessman and NSDAP member, John Rabe. He actually established a protection zone around his house in Nanjing starting in 1937, inside which he saved more than 200,000 Chinese from the bloodlust of the Japanese soldiers.
