Three-parter becomes talk of media trade fair

After garnering top ratings with ZDF’s premiere German broadcast – the finale of the three-parter was seen by 6.35 million viewers (Market Share 19.6%) – “Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause” has already successfully secured a place for itself on the international market at this year’s MIPTV.

“Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause” was screened for the first time (and as sole German-language contribution) to 350 international buyers and press representatives as one of only 12 high-end, international drama series from around the world at the inaugural MIPDrama Screenings. “We’re pleased with the stupendous interest that our program ‘Ku’ damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause’ has triggered,” adds Fred Burcksen, Executive Vice President and COO of ZDF Enterprises.

Among the first buyers of the three-parter were broadcasters from the U.S. and Denmark. ZDF Enterprises is currently negotiating with interested parties from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Great Britain, France, the Benelux countries as well as Slovakia. Further major markets that have announced a strong interest are Eastern and Western Europe as well as Latin America. Moreover, format rights are also in demand. “The interest of a major European station in the remake rights hints at great things to come for this wonderfully adaptable format,Fred Burcksen was pleased to report.

Generally, and the way ZDF Enterprises sees it, MIPTV’s “Focus on Germany” and its closely related events contributed to highlighting German productions on the international market. “We can look back with satisfaction to MIPTV 2016, and we will continue to serve the unbroken international demand for high-end drama productions such as ‘Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause’, ‘The Team’, ‘Blochin’ and many others,” summarizes Fred Burcksen.
