Fox announces Ice Age 5 for summer 2016

Ice Age is the most successful animation film franchise of all times. The adventurous journey of Manny the woolly mammoth, Sid the giant ground sloth and Diego the smilodon through the icy cold of times about 20,000 years ago have been inspiring millions of people all over the world ever since the release of the first instalment back in 2002. And they also convinced the critics: In 2003 Ice Age won an Academy Award for “Best Animated Film” and a nomination for the Saturn Award, the Golden Satellite Award and the Young Artist Award in the same category.

Each of the four movies set records in sales. To date, the franchise grossed over US$ 2.9bn at the box office. Retail reports sales of US$ 1.5bn. 110 million DVDs and blu-rays have been sold worldwide, plus 4 million videogames and 120 million App downloads.

The splendid race through a world of ice enjoys continuing popularity among the target group. In 2012 and 2013 the brand ranked among high interest licenses for children according to the Trend Tracking survey by iconkids in Germany. An average brand awareness of 89 percent within the target demographic gives proof of its strong appeal on the licensing and merchandising market. Many prestigious partners are already on board, including Edel for audio productions and Activision for PC and video console games. Ice Age adorns textiles by Monnalisa and whole collections of H&M and C&A. In the publishing section new formats are already negotiated with high profile industry experts for the segments comic, app and sound books as well as magazines, colour-in books and activity books. The stage adaptation celebrated immense success with a spectacular show – in 2014 Ice Age Live toured Germany and Austria. At the Movie Park Germany you can join Sid, Diego, Manny and Scrat on an adventurous boat trip through perpetual ice – cool special effects and ice showers included.

Ideal conditions for a new box office record of the fifth Ice Age instalment. Fox and Blue Sky Studios have announced the release of the new blockbuster for summer 2016.
