From classic to digital, 3D — and much more — on stand D040!

Brand Licensing Europe - August 2012

ITVS GE brings a diverse line-up of properties to BLE

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) is inviting attendees at this year’s Brand Licensing Expo to meet Cut the Rope®, Babar, Matt Hatter and Classic Thunderbirds on stand D040. On its amazing new stand, ITVSGE is highlighting this exciting line-up of properties that are making an impact in multiple territories and target markets.

ZeptoLab’s massively successful game Cut The Rope® will have a major presence on the ITVS GE stand where licensees and retailers will hear more about the plans for this phenomenally popular brand. With over 100 million downloads to date and brand awareness sky-high, Cut The Rope is ready to hit high street stores — just in time for BLE. Games will launch for the autumn/winter season. ITVS GE is also appointing a network of agents in key markets across Europe.

The classic preschool brand Babar comes to BLE perfectly positioned to appeal to licensees and retailers who are looking for a beautiful artwork brand to add to their portfolios. The Babar books originated 80 years ago, written by author Jean de Brunhoff for his children and the latest generation of Babar fans can now enjoy the brand new CG series Babar and the Adventures of Badou on CITV. The much-loved brand celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2013 and ITVS’s initial strategy for product ranges will be creatively focused on the brand’s vintage artwork from the original books, targeting premium nursery and gifting categories.

Licensees looking for a brand new exciting boys’ action property should look no further than Matt Hatter Chronicles on stand D040. ITVS GE is bringing another dimension to its licensing portfolio with the addition of Matt Hatter Chronicles, which ITVS GE represents in the UK, Eire, Australia and New Zealand for consumer products merchandise, home entertainment and promotional rights. This adventure-comedy series about Matt, an ordinary boy who discovers that his family defends a gateway to a dimension called the multiverse, first aired on Nicktoons in the UK in October 2011 and on CITV in March this year. The series, produced by Platinum Films and Dream Mill Inc with Canadian-based studio Arc Productions, uses state-of-the-art CG 3D animation designed to bring the story to life and to make children feel as if they are part of the action. ITVS GE will be harnessing this unique brand look on its BLE stand. The core demographic for the licensing campaign, as for the television show, is boys aged 4-9. Titan, Topps and Penguin have all recently signed licences for a range of brand new products.

ITVS GE will also be highlighting its licensing strategy for the Classic Thunderbirds brand, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2015. It’s a strategy that builds on the property’s enormous potential among 16-24-year-old men as a classic brand with a cool retro chic feel at the same time as reaching out to the show’s core fans of all ages. Two recent licensees clearly demonstrate the success of this strategy. This September street brand fashion label Rude is to launch the Brains Collection, a menswear range inspired by the scientific genius from the Classic Thunderbirds series. And the International Rescue Thunderbirds Agents’ Manual from Haynes Publishing, which is expected to appeal to many of the core Thunderbirds fans, is now available.

In addition ITVS GE will be highlighting international opportunities for Hell’s Kitchen USA and Come Dine With Me. Hell’s Kitchen USA is now in its tenth season in the US and the focus of a licensing programme launched by ITVS GE partnered with Firefly Brand Management.

Come Dine With Me has been produced in more than 35 countries worldwide and has seen the successful launch of licensing campaigns in numerous territories. The extremely popular French version of the show, Un Diner Presque Parfait, has inspired a variety of related licensed product — including books, kitchenware, kitchen textiles, a porcelain range and others — as well as a number of major promotions.

Jean-Philippe Randisi, EVP Consumer Products, ITV STUDIOS Global Entertainment, says: “The diversity and quality of the ITVS GE properties on display at this year’s BLE underlines the exciting opportunities offered by the ITVS GE brand portfolio. With a new stand peopled by our dynamic and very licensing-savvy team – backed, of course, by some quite incredible brands — we are looking forward to a very successful BLE.”
