Leonard Smith Hunts Out New Licensees At BLE

Brand Licensing Europe - September 2010

Leonard Smith (BLE stand number: AD16) is expanding into new licensing categories following 25 years of success in greetings cards. The image licensing company – owned by photographer and managing director Leonard Smith – will use its presence at Brand Licensing Europe as a springboard into new market sectors such as housewares, lifestyle and gifts

When Leonard Smith was founded 25 years ago, it was one of just three photographic companies licensing into the greetings card industry. A quarter of a century on and it’s the only one of those three not only still in business, but going from strength to strength. The greetings card using his photograph of Durdle Door in Dorset, for example, has sold in excess of 40,000 copies. Leonard attributes this success partly to the fact he takes every single photograph the company licenses out himself and offers his customers a wide range of imagery.

The Inspire range, for example, captures some of the most idyllic and beautiful images of Britain; while the Blink range captures some breathtaking action and movement shots. Other ranges by Leonard Smith include the Occasions range showcasing wedding shots, and the Little Lens range are pictures designed to appeal to little people.

“I am very excited about exhibiting at Brand Licensing Europe this year,” said Leonard. “Leonard Smith is at an exciting juncture in the company’s evolution and I am confident after 25 fabulous years our properties are strong and exciting enough to succeed across a multi-category licensing programme, as well as continue to sell well in the greetings card industry.”
