Unique Deal Sees Sesame Street Enter The World Of Fine Art

BRANDORA Editorial Staff - June 2011

CPLG - licensing agent for the Sesame Street brand – has announced details of a unique agreement that will see Art You Grew Up With appointed as fine art partner for the property.

As one of the world’s leading educational brands Sesame Street needs little introduction – loved by kids and trusted by adults, it is the most widely viewed children’s series ever and airs in over 150 different countries.

The new agreement will see Art You Grew Up With offer a range of limited edition fine art pieces based on the iconic Sesame Street characters, representing the first time the property has ever been used to create original, customised artwork. Art You Grew Up With specialises in classic and original character-based artwork for all ages, which is sold through the company’s website and premium retail outlets such as Selfridges and House of Fraser.

“We are very excited about linking up with Sesame Street,” says Art You Grew Up With MD Russell Singler. “I am a life-long fan of the show and as a company this is a brand that we have always wanted to be involved with, so the collection we are creating is very personal to us and draws on some fantastic material from the show’s archives. We only work with properties we love and that we can act as brand ambassadors for and in this respect Sesame Street fits the bill perfectly!”

A September exhibition is being planned at the London Victoria branch of House of Fraser, which will showcase the new art.

This latest agreement adds to a growing UK licensing programme for Sesame Street, with over 30 licensees on board covering a vast range of product categories. Partners include Hasbro for master toy, Warner Bros Interactive, Marks & Spencer (DTR), Abbey Home Media for home entertainment and a host of apparel partners covering all ages from infant to adult male t-shirts and William Lamb for footwear.

"Art You Grew Up With is a well renowned name in character-based fine art and we are extremely pleased to be introducing Sesame Street into this sector for the first time. Not only can you expect to see some of your favourite characters, but also a whole host of new interpretive work which further extends the brand into new areas," says Susan Bolsover, European Category Director, Publishing, CPLG
