For the fourteenth time in a row the family magazine familie&co and the Deutscher Verband der Spielwarenindustrie (DVSI) hand out the coveted "Das Goldene Schaukelpferd" award. As an especially original and child-appropriate toy the game “Die Maus – Reise durch Deutschland” (Schmidt) wins in the category “For the whole family”.

Sure enough, the Mouse would have to say something clever and funny to the number “44” – if only someone asked her… For 44 years the probably most popular orangey character with funny whiskers has successfully presented the "Sendung mit der Maus" (Show with the Mouse) to spread knowledge and entertainment with her facts and funnies. Now the Mouse invites her fans to join her for the new children’s game on an exciting trivia journey through Germany. And as it had to be expected, everyone (up to four children aged 7+) who takes part in this trip of the German federal states will not only have stories to tell, but loads of things to learn.

"Die Maus – Reise durch Deutschland" starts – how could it be otherwise – on a large map of Germany, the game board, in Berlin. The journey from the Baltic Sea to Lake Constance is determined by 54 Travel Cards. Players draw a card from the pile and visit various federal states. When one of the players for example discovers “Brandenburg” among their first four Travel Cards, they may play the card and move the Mouse token to the neighbouring state. True to the motto "Neighbours belong together”! If you are really lucky, you even have Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and may immediately move on…

If you can’t move further, it’s the next player’s turn to prove that they are good neighbours, too. So the Mouse and all players move around the republic round after round and collect winning points as they collect Travel Cards.

The game gets really exciting when you ring in trivia time by playing a Question Card. Now it’s time to test your knowledge! 106 cards feature 106 Mouse questions (and – of course – the answers). All tourists take part in the game when the Mouse wants to know what Saarlanders call "Dibbelabbes" (potato pancakes) or on which island the "Königsstuhl" is (Ruegen). The cards offer three possible answers, featuring suitcase-symbols in red, blue, and violet. The Travel Cards feature one of these symbols as well. Now each player of "Reise durch Deutschland" has to decide which answers is the correct one by playing a Travel Card of the respective colour. Have you been clever as a Mouse?! So you will soon pile up your Travel Cards and increase your chances of winning the game. Guessed wrong? You will just have to wait for the next question. Obviously Hamburg is the city that has more sea gulls than any other city in Europe! Or …was it street signs… or bridges…?
